Thank you for contributing to SimBox.

Individuals participating in content development will be recognized on the SimBox site and can work with the team to explore additional opportunities for scholarship/peer review.

How can I contribute content/cases to telesimbox/simbox?

Contact marc.auerbach@yale.edu to inform him of your interest/intent.

How do I get started on creating a case?

IDOTO- it depends on the objectives!

What are the objectives related to the clinical case/topic?

Using KERN process

  • perform

    • general needs assessment for problem identification

    • targeted needs assessment (discussion with learners)

  • literature review and review of existing educational materials

  • identify gaps in care

  • identify potential impact on patient

  • identify current approaches to training

Work to create level-specific objectives for learner groups: refer to milestones or procedure requirements.

To date objectives relate to:

  • knowledge (medical management, physiology, equipment)

  • skills (teamwork/communication, family/patient communication),

  • attitudes (confidence in pediatrics)

Using the template:

1.  Familiarize yourself with the SimBox concept by running an existing case

2.  Identify

  • your targeted learner(s):

  • practice setting (EMS, ED, inpatient)

  • level of experience (students, residents, faculty).

3. Create lists of

  • potential goals (2-3)

  • measurable learning objectives (6-9)

4. Match 4-6 measurable goals and objectives to match the SimBox educational strategies

This is an opportunity for team experiential learning + reflective debriefing +/- hands-on experiences.

To date objectives relate to:

  • knowledge (medical management, physiology, equipment)

  • skills (teamwork/communication, family/patient communication),

  • attitudes (confidence in pediatrics)

5.  Create simulation case with SimBox template to meet learning objectives:

Use SimBox format of

  • initial handoff communication,

  • descriptions of visual/video of the patient

  • vital signs with trends over time

  • images/videos of patient over time

  • parent script, nurse/embedded participant script

  • prompt to hand off at end of case

6.  Create debrief facts page with content related to each learning objective to facilitate discussion.

7.  Work with SimBox team to create/curate post-simulation resources to send to learners for additional reading, listening, learning (podcasts, websites, articles, videos, etc.)

8.  Work with SimBox team to create/ the video/vitals/app etc. to match the script described above

9.  Implement the case with a selected group of learners and collect feedback from facilitator and debriefers.

10.  Iteratively improve/adapt steps 4-6 until ready for dissemination through SimBox website.

HAVE FUN!
